ST. JOHNSBURY - Senior citizens gathered at the Good Living Center in St. Johnsbury Thursday to begin a class of balance.
A Matter of Balance is for anyone that is concerned about falling and who is interested in improving balance, flexibility, and strength.
Instructor, Jenny Patoine, says the goal is "to reduce the risks of falls and reduce the fear of falling, so that people can be more active, and can feel confident about being more active."
Patoine has been certified to instruct the class by the Area Agency on Aging, in which she is a Nutrition Wellness Coordinator. Patione teaches classes throughout the local area a few times a year.
Her goal by the end of the program is to have "...everybody still coming and interested in learning how to reduce their risks of falls."
Residents enjoy being able to be around people in the same situation. "This is a good way for old people to talk to other old people, you know, and realize they're not the only ones that have fallen or will probably fall," said resident, Debbie Taylor.
The class will run for eight weeks and each class will build on the previous one.
